![]() ![]() The first time I learned of Fevre Dream and ever heard George Martin's name, oddly enough, was in an interview with Ursula LeGuin who was saying that it was a book all SF fans should read. And because the vampires are very organized in this story. But that may be because vampires don't really scare me, which is one reason I like them, I guess. For me, most of the book read like a thriller instead. Oddly enough, though I would term the book as dark, the horror aspects of the story didn't work much for me except for the one victim scene, which was creepy. Basically, Fevre Dream has a lot in common with Matheson's I Am Legend, except that Martin was mixing it quite clearly with Mark Twain and American history. Wert - Steampunk was used for both fantasy and SF stories set in the 19th century when the term was first used in the 1980's. Nemesm is entitled to an opinion and I was rude to even bring up the word rant. ![]()
